SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Marvin E. Day Jr. of Springfield, who passed away on March 6, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Day was born in Chicago to Marvin E. Sr. and Ezella Day on November 12, 1962; he graduated from Southeast High School in Springfield and married Dana Bankhead-Day on October 17, 1998; he married KaMyra Doaks on July 11, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Day began working for Springfield Public School District 186 at Sandburg Elementary School; on July 10, 2000, he began his employment with the City of Springfield Public Works, where he was especially proud of his dedicated service; he retired on November 12, 2021 after 21 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Day enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing his music; for years, he played bass guitar with the Funky Me and the Unfound Funk, Magnum Force, Unique Experience, The Force, and numerous other bands until he stopped playing and devoted his time to raising his children; he coached the girls track team at Southeast High School and enjoyed mentoring and training the girls; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Day was preceded in death by his father, Marvin E. Day Sr.; his father-in-law, Paul Harmon; his sister, Debra Henderson; his grandparents, Ezell and Helena Booth, Charles and Orene Day, and William and Della Webster; and his uncle, Charles Day; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Day is survived by his mother and father, Ezella and Milford Webster; his mother-in-law, Jacqueline Harmon; his wife, KaMyra Day; his son, Keon Day; his daughter, Starrsha Bankhead; his son, Diondre Doaks; his daughter, Dierra Doaks; his sisters, Lisa (Jon) Sloan and Sheila (Dennis) Hanson; his granddaughter, Imani Rochelle Mixon; his special aunts, Joyce (Willis) Logan, Lanie Meredith-Bailey, and Joel Webster; his special uncle, Ned Kerr; his special cousin, Michelle (Brian) Kerr-Spry; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Marvin E. Day Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Marvin Day as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
