SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Olive Mobed, who passed away on May 17, 2021 at the age of 96; and

WHEREAS, Olive Mobed and her twin brother were born in Coventry, England on December 24, 1924; and

WHEREAS, After the Second World War, Olive Mobed graduated from nursing school and then specialized in both eye care and midwifery; and

WHEREAS, Olive Mobed started her nursing career in Birmingham, London and soon moved to Iran to teach midwifery as a member of the World Health Organization; and

WHEREAS, In Iran, Olive Mobed met and married her husband, Jehangir (John) Mobed; and

WHEREAS, Olive Mobed and her husband moved to the United States in 1963, where she worked as a nurse in the obstetrics departments of hospitals in Boston, Massachusetts, Washington D.C., and Jacksonville, Florida, before settling in River Forest in 1969; and

WHEREAS, Olive Mobed continued her career as a nurse at West Suburban Hospital until her retirement in 1986 and continued to serve as a volunteer for 20 years; and

WHEREAS, As an adventurous traveler, Olive Mobed toured much of Europe as well as more exotic locales, including Egypt and Nepal; in addition to experiencing new cultures, she was an avid reader, tennis player, and pianist; and

WHEREAS, As an active member of the community, Olive Mobed contributed to a local charity group that supported the British Home and was a member of the Berean Bible Students Church in Lombard and later First Presbyterian Church of River Forest; and

WHEREAS, Olive Mobed is survived by her three children, Parvine MacDonald and her husband, Mark, Sue Arends and her husband, Dan, and Jim Mobed and his wife, Henrike; her eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Olive Mobed and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Olive Mobed as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
