SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Melvin E. "Mel" Laverenz of Coal
4Valley, who passed away on March 28, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mel Laverenz was born in Davenport, Iowa to
6Lawrence and Ella (Diederichsen) Laverenz on March 16, 1944;
7he graduated from Davenport West High School and served with
8the U.S. Army in Europe for two years; he married Terrie
9Swanson in Orion on June 14, 1984; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mel Laverenz worked for the Crescent Electric
11Supply Co. until 2009; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Mel Laverenz was a member of the Elks Club in
13Davenport for over 40 years; he was also a member of St. Paul
14Lutheran Church in Orion; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Mel Laverenz loved watching all sports and
16especially enjoyed a good game; he enjoyed golfing and bowling
17and was an avid fan of NASCAR for most of his life; his
18vacations were often spent traveling across the country,
19hiking and camping with family and friends; family was of the
20utmost importance to him, and his children and grandchildren
21provided him with a constant source of pride and joy; and

1    WHEREAS, Mel Laverenz was preceded in death by his parents
2and his brothers, Don and Gene; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Mel Laverenz is survived by his wife, Terrie; his
4children, Shana (Kurt) Schindler, Katie (Mike) Crawford, and
5Bekka Laverenz; and his grandchildren, Courtney Schindler, Roy
6Schindler, Liam Crawford, and Emersyn Crawford; therefore, be
7it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Melvin E. "Mel" Laverenz and extend our sincere condolences to
11his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Mel Laverenz as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
