SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Philip W. Weber of Dawson, who passed away on March 31, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Philip Weber was born in Marion, Virginia to Norman J. and Dixie Vandergriff Weber on May 12, 1944; he graduated from Collinsville High School in 1962 and from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts in Russian with honors; he earned his Juris Doctor cum laude from the St. Louis University School of Law in 1970; and

WHEREAS, Philip Weber practiced law in Madison County for several years, serving as assistant public defender and assistant states attorney; in 1977, he moved to Springfield, and after working one year in the criminal division of the Office of the Illinois Attorney General, he began a long and storied career on the Senate Republican staff, where he retired as chief legal counsel and research director in 2003; and

WHEREAS, Philip Weber had a passion for history, particularly Russian history and the political history of the Civil War; he loved photography, canoeing, and the beauty of nature and never failed to point out a hawk or vulture traversing the skies; and

WHEREAS, Philip Weber was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Philip Weber was the loving husband of wife, Marcia; the devoted stepfather of Adam and Graham Nicholson; the loving brother of Don W. (Catherine) Weber; and the cherished friend and mentor of many; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Philip W. Weber and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Philip Weber as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
