SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Philip W. Weber of Dawson, who passed
4away on March 31, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Philip Weber was born in Marion, Virginia to
6Norman J. and Dixie Vandergriff Weber on May 12, 1944; he
7graduated from Collinsville High School in 1962 and from
8Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 1966 with a
9Bachelor of Arts in Russian with honors; he earned his Juris
10Doctor cum laude from the St. Louis University School of Law in
111970; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Philip Weber practiced law in Madison County for
13several years, serving as assistant public defender and
14assistant states attorney; in 1977, he moved to Springfield,
15and after working one year in the criminal division of the
16Office of the Illinois Attorney General, he began a long and
17storied career on the Senate Republican staff, where he
18retired as chief legal counsel and research director in 2003;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, Philip Weber had a passion for history,
21particularly Russian history and the political history of the
22Civil War; he loved photography, canoeing, and the beauty of

1nature and never failed to point out a hawk or vulture
2traversing the skies; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Philip Weber was preceded in death by his
4parents; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Philip Weber was the loving husband of wife,
6Marcia; the devoted stepfather of Adam and Graham Nicholson;
7the loving brother of Don W. (Catherine) Weber; and the
8cherished friend and mentor of many; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Philip W. Weber and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Philip Weber as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
