SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of former Illinois State Senator Timothy
4F. "Tim" Degnan of Oak Brook; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Tim Degnan was born in Chicago; he attended St.
6Ignatius High School, the University of Illinois, and the
7Illinois Institute of Technology; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Tim Degnan began his career with the City of
9Chicago in the information technology department and was named
10acting commissioner of the streets and sanitation department
11in 1979; and
 
12    WHEREAS, After Richard M. Daley was elected Cook County
13State's Attorney in 1980, Tim Degnan was appointed to succeed
14Daley in the 81st General Assembly by the 23rd District
15Democratic Legislative Committee; he served in the Illinois
16Senate as a Democrat from 1980 to 1989; and
 
17    WHEREAS, After Richard M. Daley was elected Mayor of
18Chicago, Tim Degnan left the Illinois Senate to serve as
19Daley's director of intergovernmental affairs, where he played
20a key role in obtaining state legislative approval for the $1
21billion McCormick Place expansion, raising more than $205

1million in state funds for local pavement resurfacing and
2forging a reliable majority in the city council; and
 
3    WHEREAS, As a respected businessman and public servant,
4Tim Degnan was known for his keen insight and his ability to
5help find a consensus on issues; he will be remembered as an
6astute man with a generous heart, always quietly giving to his
7family and countless others; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Tim Degnan was preceded in death by his wife,
9Sandra; his parents, Francis J. and Bernice (Hogan) Degnan;
10and his brothers, Richard and Robert; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Tim Degnan is survived by his children, Julie,
12Timothy (Sue), Patricia (Dan) Woods, Jack (Liza), Michael
13(Amy), and Daniel (Cindi); his grandchildren, Samantha (Mike
14Owcarz), Daniel (Julia) Woods, Michael Woods, Caitlyn, Emily,
15Maggie, Erin, Lexi, Lindsay, Makayla, Maura, Meghan, Grace,
16and Addison; his brother, Patrick; and his many nieces and
17nephews; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Timothy F. "Tim" Degnan and extend our sincere condolences to
21his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
22further

3deepest sympathy.
