SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Shirley Eleanor Christell of Forest
4Park, who passed away on September 13, 2022 at the age of 99;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Shirley Christell loved spending time with family
7and friends, whether in small gatherings or those that
8overflowed into their beautiful yard in Forest Park; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Shirley Christell enjoyed birding, gardening,
10sewing, knitting, crocheting, basket-weaving, baking, and
11cooking; she was known to be able to throw a party in 15
12minutes when any guest stopped for a visit; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Shirley Christell and her husband of 69 years,
14Jack Christell, enjoyed traveling, including camping, taking
15ship and riverboat cruises, attending elderhostels, and
16visiting family and friends throughout the United States; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Shirley Christell cherished her connection to
18church, which expanded to volunteer work with Good Shepherd
19Lutheran Church in leading the daytimers group as well as
20starting a knitting group that created prayer shawls; and

1    WHEREAS, Shirley Christell and her husband also worked at
2the Lutheran Center Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
3(ECLA) Headquarters in Chicago, and her love of reading and
4research led her to volunteer at the Forest Park Public
5Library, where she served as president of the Friends of the
6Library Board; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Shirley Christell was an accomplished singer; she
8sang in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church's Choir as well as the
9local singing group, the Trebelaires; she also found
10expression through music by playing piano, organ, and
11accordion; and
 
12    WHEREAS, At the time of her passing, Shirley Christell was
13survived by Lance (Carol), Roy (Terry), and Valerie (Suzanne);
14four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; therefore,
15be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Shirley Christell and extend our sincere condolences to her
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Shirley Christell as an expression
