SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Robert J. Amidon, Ph.D., of Milan, who
4passed away on October 27, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Amidon was born to Herbert Willis and
6Isabella Wilhelmina Cullison Amidon in Rock Island on November
724, 1929; he earned his undergraduate degree from the
8University of Illinois and his Ph.D. from the University of
9Iowa; he married Gertrude Petty at Taylor Ridge United
10Methodist Church on June 7, 1953; he served in the U.S. Navy,
11and he received the National Defense Medal and the Navy
12Occupational Medal; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Robert Amidon worked as a systems analyst for the
14Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1985; following retirement,
15he taught at St. Ambrose University; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Robert Amidon enjoyed woodworking and tinkering
17with many things, and he made birdhouses and several other
18items from wood to give to his family; he also enjoyed
19gardening and having a cigar while mowing; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Robert Amidon was preceded in death by his
21parents and his sister, Marion Hoffiditz; and

1    WHEREAS, Robert Amidon is survived by his wife, Gertrude
2Amidon; his sons, Jeff (Elaine) Amidon and Bruce Amidon; his
3granddaughters, Christina (Jerry) Cunningham and Alayna Rae
4Amidon; his great-grandchildren, Liam and Marek Cunningham;
5his sister, Harriette Westbrook; and his brother, Richard
6Amidon; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Robert J. Amidon, Ph.D. and extend our sincere condolences to
10his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Robert Amidon as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
