SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Reverend Dr. Clifford Tyler, who passed away on November 19, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Tyler served as a staff sergeant with the U.S. Army during World War II from June 3, 1943 to February 19, 1946 and received an Honorable Discharge; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Tyler was pastor emeritus of First Timothy Missionary Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Tyler served as the pastor of First Timothy Missionary Baptist Church for 45 years; over the years, he also served as president of the Baptist Minister's Union, president of the Progressive Baptist District Association of Illinois, president of the Progressive Baptist State Convention of Illinois, chairman of the board of the Chicago Baptist Institute, and president of the Chicago Baptist Institute; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Tyler enjoyed preaching, fishing, hunting, baking, cooking, gardening, Bible study, bowling, road trips, and gadgets; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Tyler is father to Sheila Tyler Smith; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Reverend Dr. Clifford Tyler and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rev. Tyler as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
