SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James L. "Jim" Bertelsen of Coal Valley, who passed away on April 19, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Jim Bertelsen, the son of Orville and Irma (Hanna) Bertelsen, was born in Monmouth on June 26, 1941; he served in the U.S. Army; he married Barbara (Woods) Smallwood in Rock Island on December 29, 1968; and

WHEREAS, Jim Bertelsen worked at the Rock Island Arsenal for 24 years before his retirement; he previously worked for the Roth Tank Company in Rock Island; and

WHEREAS, Jim Bertelsen was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church and the American Legion, and he sang with the Good News Singers Chorale; and

WHEREAS, Jim Bertelsen was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his sister, Cornelia Ann Schaefer; and his brother, Richard Bertelsen; and

WHEREAS, Jim Bertelsen is survived by his son, Eric (Rebecca) Bertelsen; his brother, David Bertelsen; his sister, Julia Zvanes; several nieces and nephews; and other family members and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James L. "Jim" Bertelsen and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jim Bertelsen as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
