    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Makes a technical change in a Section concerning abandoned vehicles.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing
5Section 4-201 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/4-201)  (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 4-201)
7    Sec. 4-201. Abandonment of of vehicles prohibited.
8    (a) The abandonment of a vehicle or any part thereof on any
9highway in this State is unlawful and subject to penalties as
10set forth under Penalty Section 4-214 of this Chapter.
11    (b) The abandonment of a vehicle or any part thereof on
12private or public property, other than a highway, in view of
13the general public, anywhere in this State is unlawful except
14on property of the owner or bailee of such abandoned vehicle. A
15vehicle or any part thereof so abandoned on private property
16shall be authorized for removal, by a law enforcement agency
17having jurisdiction, after a waiting period of 7 days or more,
18or may be removed immediately if determined to be a hazardous
19dilapidated motor vehicle under Section 11-40-3.1 of the
20Illinois Municipal Code. A violation of subsections (a) or (b)
21of this Section is subject to penalties as set forth under
22Section 4-214 of this Chapter.
23    (c) A towing service may begin to process an unclaimed

1vehicle as abandoned by requesting a record search by the
2Secretary of State up to 10 days after the date of the tow, or
3any later date acceptable to the Secretary of State. This
4subsection (c) shall not apply to vehicles towed by order or
5authorization of a law enforcement agency.
