SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
70 ILCS 705/4c new

    Amends the Fire Protection District Act. Provides that upon the effective date of this amendatory Act, the township board of trustees shall constitute the board of commissioners of a fire protection district if: that district is governed by a 3-member board appointed by the township board in a county with a population greater than 900,000 and less than 1,000,000; and that district serves residents in unincorporated areas of a township and contracts for those fire protection services with surrounding fire departments. Provides that the members of the township board of trustees shall not receive compensation for their service as the board of the fire protection district. Further provides that fire protection district commissioners appointed prior to the effective date of this amendatory Act shall constitute the board of the fire protection district until the expiration of the term of office of the most recently appointed board member. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Fire Protection District Act is amended by
5adding Section 4c as follows:
 
6    (70 ILCS 705/4c new)
7    Sec. 4c. Township board assuming duties of fire protection
8district board. Upon the effective date of this amendatory Act
9of the 98th General Assembly, the township board of trustees
10shall constitute the board of commissioners of a fire
11protection district if: that fire protection district is
12governed by a 3-member board appointed by the township board in
13a county with a population greater than 900,000 and less than
141,000,000 according to the 2010 decennial census; and that
15district serves residents in unincorporated areas of a township
16and contracts for those fire protection services with
17surrounding fire departments. The members of the township board
18of trustees shall serve as the board of commissioners of the
19fire protection district without compensation.
20    Fire protection district commissioners appointed prior to
21the effective date of this amendatory Act of the 98th General
22Assembly shall constitute the board of the fire protection
23district until the expiration of the term of office of the most

2    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
3becoming law.
