HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor Dr. Joseph Shanahan on his more than 30 years of service to Adventist GlenOaks Hospital; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Shanahan, a Burr Ridge resident, has headed the Adventist GlenOaks Hospital emergency department since its opening more than 30 years ago; during this time, he has served as president of the hospital's medical staff and was the first emergency physician to be on the hospital's board of directors; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Shanahan's depth of experience in dealing with emergency room patients helped him develop the new emergency department at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital, which opened in 2007; he toured more than 20 emergency room departments nationwide and incorporated the best ideas into the new department; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Shanahan is not shy about showing off his Irish heritage; he has been a marcher with the Irish Fellowship in the Chicago's St. Patrick's Day parade for the past 25 years and has been known to come to the hospital dressed as a leprechaun on St. Patrick's Day; and

WHEREAS, Since January 2013, Dr. Shanahan has been the executive administrative liaison for Adventist GlenOaks Hospital; he was appointed to his current role because of his dedication to both the community and the hospital; and

WHEREAS, Adventist GlenOaks Hospital will host an open house on March 21, 2013, at the Hilton Chicago/Indian Lakes Resort in Bloomingdale to celebrate Dr. Shanahan's career; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor Dr. Shanahan for his more than 30 years of service to the Adventist GlenOaks Hospital community, and we wish him well in his new position as executive administrative liaison and in all his future endeavours; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Shanahan as an expression of our esteem and respect.
