HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Nate Martin as he retires from the Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners; and

WHEREAS, Nate Martin was appointed to the Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners in 1995 to fill a 2-year unexpired term; he was subsequently elected to the board in 1999, 2005, and 2007; he has served with distinction for 3 6-year terms, with 3 years as president from 2004-2007; and

WHEREAS, Nate Martin was appointed to the Illinois Association of Park Districts Board of Trustees in January 2008 and continues to serve as vice-chairman; and

WHEREAS, In 2010, Nate Martin received the Mike Cassidy Commissioner Community Service Award from the Illinois Association of Park Districts and the Illinois Park and Recreation Association; and

WHEREAS, Nate Martin has advocated expanding district services to meet the after-school recreational needs of area youth and has strongly supported the Recreation Grants partnerships that currently fund 30 community agencies and programs in delivering recreational programs throughout the summer; he was instrumental in the planning and development of Southwest Community Park and has volunteered his time and talent for several community organizations in addition to the park board, such as the Alignment Rockford Steering Committee; and

WHEREAS, Some of Nate Martin's most notable projects are Levings Lakers (a fishing program for kids), Rec Nights for middle school youth, and the Masai Teen Challenge program; and he has been a champion for youth sports and activities to keep the youth of our community off of the streets; and

WHEREAS, Nate Martin's retirement is official in April 2013 and a reception will be held on May 8, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Nate Martin is married to Marge and they have a son, Chad, and a daughter, Marcia; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Nate Martin as he retires from the Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Nate Martin as an expression of our esteem and respect.
