| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate the Will County Farm | 4 | | Bureau on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of its | 5 | | founding; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, The Will County Farm Bureau was formed by a group | 7 | | of local farmers in 1913; its first President
was Edward L. | 8 | | Wilson and the Bureau was originally known as the Will County | 9 | | Soil and Water Association; it was housed in the Woodruff | 10 | | Building at Chicago and Jefferson Streets in Joliet; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, The name was changed to the Will County Farm | 12 | | Bureau and the first board of directors was
elected in 1919, | 13 | | with the new President being John Keniston; 30 Presidents have | 14 | | followed since; and | 15 | | WHEREAS, The Will County Farm Bureau has worked on behalf | 16 | | of local farmers to help promote a
positive image of the | 17 | | agriculture industry and has offered the support and assistance | 18 | | needed to the
local farming community in helping to maintain | 19 | | and strengthen the principles of the farming industry; and | 20 | | WHEREAS, The Will County Farm Bureau has vigorously opposed | 21 | | programs and policies which eroded or
attacked the foundation |

| 1 | | of agriculture production; and | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Will County Farm Bureau has been a strong | 3 | | supporter of private property rights, assisting
local farmers | 4 | | with various issues over the years; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Will County Farm Bureau moved its headquarters | 6 | | to the Terminal Building at Clinton & Ottawa
Streets in 1920 | 7 | | and remained in that location until 1961 when they moved to | 8 | | their current location on Manhattan Road in Joliet; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, The first organized movement to teach students | 10 | | about their food system was started by the
Farm Bureau's | 11 | | women's organization in 1961; in 1981, it was changed to the | 12 | | Ag-in-the-Classroom program; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, The Will County Farm Bureau saw the need to start | 14 | | other local farm organizations; in 1979,
it started the Will | 15 | | County Corn Growers Association and, in 1983, it started the | 16 | | Will County Soybean Growers
Association to help reach out and | 17 | | support farmers with production needs; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, In 1999, the Will County Farm Bureau hosted the | 19 | | National Farm Hearing at the Floyd & Karre
Schultz Farm to | 20 | | address the lowest farm prices they had seen in over 20 years; | 21 | | it had a powerhouse line
up of speakers, including the American |

| 1 | | Farm Bureau President, 5 other Farm Bureau State Presidents,
| 2 | | and United States Senators and Congressmen, with Orion | 3 | | Samuelsson servings as the master of ceremonies; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, The Will County Farm Bureau marks its 100th | 5 | | anniversary on November 23, 2013 at a
celebration dinner at the | 6 | | Joliet Junior College Weitendorf Agriculture Facility; | 7 | | therefore, be it
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 9 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 10 | | we congratulate the Will County Farm Bureau on its 100th | 11 | | anniversary, and wish the
organization and its members | 12 | | continued success; and be it further
| 13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 14 | | presented to the Will County Farm Bureau as a
symbol of our | 15 | | esteem and respect.
