HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Roger McFarlin for receiving the "2013 Rural Physician of Excellence Award" from the Illinois Rural Health Association; and

WHEREAS, One of the biggest healthcare challenges across our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural settings; and

WHEREAS, Dr. McFarlin earned his medical degree in 1969 from the University of Louisville School of Medicine and completed his residency in 1971 at the Denver Health Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, Upon completion of his residency, Dr. McFarlin returned to his hometown of Hillsboro in 1972 to practice family medicine in a rural setting; and

WHEREAS, For over 40 years, Dr. Mc Farlin has continued to make a tremendous impact on health care delivery in Montgomery County; and

WHEREAS, Dr. McFarlin has served on the staff of both St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield and the Hillsboro Area Hospital; and

WHEREAS, Dr. McFarlin has served as the Medical Director of the Hillsboro Area Hospital; and

WHEREAS, Dr. McFarlin also worked to improve the quality of life in his community through his service on the Montgomery County Health Board, the TB Board and the Lake Improvement Committee; and

WHEREAS, Dr. McFarlin always treats each patient like a member of his family, which makes him the true definition of a family physician; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Dr. Roger McFarlin for his selfless service to his community and the impact he has made on improving rural health; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. McFarlin as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
