HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, In 1985, the Will-Grundy Medical Society
3recognized the need to create an organized system to provide
4health care to those without insurance or the ability to obtain
5even the most basic healthcare; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Medical Society and a group of Will County and
7Grundy County community leaders conceived the idea of a "free
8clinic"; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The Will-Grundy Medical Clinic was officially
10organized and chartered in 1987 and opened its doors in March
11of 1988 to provide health and dental care to uninsured and
12underserved residents in the two-county area; and
 
13    WHEREAS, During the last 25 years, hundreds of volunteer
14physicians, dentists, nurses, hygienists, and other medical
15professionals have joined with thousands of other volunteers to
16provide their services to clinic patients; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Morris Hospital and Healthcare Centers, Presence
18St. Joseph Medical Center, Silver Cross Hospital, and more
19recently Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital have been outstanding
20partners in support of the clinic's work providing millions of
21dollars of contributed services to the treatment of patients;

2    WHEREAS, The clinic has enjoyed the financial support of
3the United Way of Will County, the United Way of Grundy County,
4Joliet Township Government, the Holly Club of Joliet, hundreds
5of local businesses, numerous social and civic organizations,
6and thousands of individual contributors; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Over the last 25 years, the Clinic has treated
8thousands of patients, providing healing and hope with
9treatment and services that have an estimated value of $92.2
10million; in the last 25 years there have been 5 directors and 2
11interim directors; the 2 interim directors were Elaine Griffin
12and Fran Burkey; the directors have been Sr. Lucille Adelmann,
13Marianne Gallagher, Jean Roach, Sandra Cowgill, and the current
14director J.D. Ross; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we recognize the volunteers and staff of the Will-Grundy
18Medical Clinic and congratulate them on 25 years of outstanding
19service to residents within the city of Joliet and surrounding
20two-county area; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the Will-Grundy Medical Clinic as an expression of
