HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Pat Brown,
4physical education teacher at Lester Elementary School in
5Downers Grove, on receiving the National PTA Life Achievement
6Award; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The National PTA Life Achievement Award is the
8highest honor from the nation's largest child advocacy
9organization; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Pat Brown has been getting students moving for 31
11years; in the last several years, she has brough innovative
12physical education instruction to School District 51,
13instituting "Movin' in the Morning", a before-school activity
14program and the "Motor Club", an after-school program for
15first-graders; she has also introduced an after-school
16volleyball program for sixth-graders that culminates with a
17game against the staff; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Through Pat Brown's commitment to the Jump Rope
19for Heart charity, Lester Elementary School has raised more
20than $150,000 for the American Heart Association and remains
21the only school to devote a weekend day to the program; in
22addition, they hold a jump rope fundraiser where participants

1find sponsors to donate money for every minute the person jumps
2during the 3-hour event; and
 
3    WHEREAS, It is the evident joy when a student is healthy
4and active that keeps Pat Brown motivated after 31 years;
5therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we congratulate Lester Elementary School physical education
9teacher Pat Brown on receiving the National PTA Life
10Achievement Award and wish her the best in all her future
11endeavors; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to Pat Brown as an expression of our esteem and
14respect.
