SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 2610/1  from Ch. 121, par. 307.1

    Amends the State Police Act. Provides that the Department of State Police shall maintain a minimum force of 2,350 State Police Officers. Provides that the Governor, in consultation with the General Assembly and the Director of State Police, shall review every 4 years, commencing 4 years from the effective date of the amendatory Act, the minimum number of State Police Officers. Provides that the Director of State Police, in conjunction with the Department of State Police Merit Board, shall add State Police Officers to the Department as needed, in order to maintain the minimum allowable number of State Police Officers. Provides that the Director shall be responsible for the management and control of the additions of State Police Officers to the Department.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The State Police Act is amended by changing
5Section 1 as follows:
 
6    (20 ILCS 2610/1)  (from Ch. 121, par. 307.1)
7    Sec. 1. Department of State Police divisions; minimum
8force.
9    (a) The Department of State Police, hereinafter called the
10Department, shall maintain divisions in accordance with
11Section 2605-25 of the Department of State Police Law (20 ILCS
122605/2605-25). The Department, by the Director, shall appoint
13State policemen, also known as State Police Officers, as
14provided in this Act.
15    (b) The Department of State Police shall maintain a minimum
16force of 2,350 State Police Officers. The Governor, in
17consultation with the General Assembly and the Director of
18State Police, shall review every 4 years, commencing 4 years
19from the effective date of this amendatory Act of the 98th
20General Assembly, the minimum number of State Police Officers.
21The Director of State Police, in conjunction with the
22Department of State Police Merit Board, shall add State Police
