SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Robert Lewis Deck of Girard, who passed away on March 14, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Robert Deck was born on October 9, 1930, in Girard; his parents were Lewis Wyman and Naomi (Parks) Deck; and

WHEREAS, Robert Deck graduated from Girard High School in 1948; he subsequently earned his degree from the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy in 1952; and

WHEREAS, Robert Deck served his country with pride as a member of the United States Armed Forces during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955; he earned the rank of corporal at the time of his discharge; and

WHEREAS, Robert Deck was a registered pharmacist and a co-owner of Decks Drug Store in Girard, which was started in 1884 by his grandfather; he worked there for over 40 years until his retirement in 2001; and

WHEREAS, Robert Deck was a member of Parkway Christian Church in Springfield; he was also a member of Guy Baird American Legion Post #544, the American Pharmacists Association, the Illinois Pharmacists Association, the National Association of Retail Druggists, the Girard Library Board (chairman), the Macoupin County Historical Society, the Girard Community Center (secretary), the Girard Chamber of Commerce, and the Girard High School Alumni Association; and

WHEREAS, Robert Deck was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Naomi Deck; and

WHEREAS, Robert Deck is survived by his brother, Wyman P. "Bill" Deck, and his many friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Robert Lewis Deck; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Robert Deck as an expression of our sympathy.
