SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert Lewis Deck of Girard, who passed
4away on March 14, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Deck was born on October 9, 1930, in
6Girard; his parents were Lewis Wyman and Naomi (Parks) Deck;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Robert Deck graduated from Girard High School in
91948; he subsequently earned his degree from the University of
10Illinois College of Pharmacy in 1952; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Robert Deck served his country with pride as a
12member of the United States Armed Forces during the Korean War
13from 1953 to 1955; he earned the rank of corporal at the time
14of his discharge; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Robert Deck was a registered pharmacist and a
16co-owner of Decks Drug Store in Girard, which was started in
171884 by his grandfather; he worked there for over 40 years
18until his retirement in 2001; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Robert Deck was a member of Parkway Christian
20Church in Springfield; he was also a member of Guy Baird

1American Legion Post #544, the American Pharmacists
2Association, the Illinois Pharmacists Association, the
3National Association of Retail Druggists, the Girard Library
4Board (chairman), the Macoupin County Historical Society, the
5Girard Community Center (secretary), the Girard Chamber of
6Commerce, and the Girard High School Alumni Association; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Robert Deck was preceded in death by his parents,
8Lewis and Naomi Deck; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Robert Deck is survived by his brother, Wyman P.
10"Bill" Deck, and his many friends; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
13his family and friends, the passing of Robert Lewis Deck; and
14be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Robert Deck as an expression of our
17sympathy.
