SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James William May, who passed away on
4April 27, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James May was born on August 17, 1935, on the
6family farm in Montgomery County; and
 
7    WHEREAS, James May attended one-room schools and graduated
8from Hilltop High School in 1952; he immediately matriculated
9to Brown's Business School in St. Louis, where he graduated
10from their programs in secretarial accounting and eventually
11court reporting programs; he also attended classes at St. Louis
12University and Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, During his career, James May held appointments
15with Federal Judge Rubye Hulen of St. Louis as well as Federal
16District Judge William Beatty of Alton; he was also an official
17court reporter for the Third Judicial Circuit Madison County in
18Edwardsville; in 1969, he formed May Reporting Service, a
19freelance court reporting firm doing mostly depositions and
20arbitrations; he was still active shortly before his passing;
21he also served on the Madison County Housing Authority for 5
22years and served as the Authority's chairman; and

1    WHEREAS, James May was presented with the prestigious
2Liberty Bell Award by the Madison County Board Association in
32000 in recognition of his achievements; and
 
4    WHEREAS, James May is survived by his longtime friend and
5companion, Judy Furlow; his son, James M. May and his wife,
6Amy; his daughter, Janie M. Grunwald and her husband, Scott;
7his stepdaughters, Michelle Whittington and her husband
8Dennis, and Cheryl Langreder; and his many grandchildren and
9great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
12his family and friends, the passing of James William May; and
13be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of James May as an expression of our
16sympathy.
