SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joseph F. Girgis, who passed away on May
413, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joseph Girgis was born in 1924, in Egypt; he moved
6to Chicago in 1968, and then moved to Oak Brook; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Joseph Girgis served as an engineering professor
8at DeVry University for 40 years; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Joseph Girgis was a devout Christian who was
10involved in planting churches in Egypt and in Chicago; he
11delivered a Christian Arabic radio broadcast in Chicago for
12many years; he was a committed family man who also mentored
13many individuals, started the Bible Club at DeVry, and was an
14avid promoter of Moody Radio Broadcast; he was a member at
15Lombard Gospel Chapel and was one of the founding members of
16the Chicago Arabic Church; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Joseph Girgis was preceded in death by his son,
18Peter; his siblings, Dr. Aziz (the late Hoda), Faiza (the late
19Dr. Hilal) El Massarany, Wafeya (the late Foad) Mishrikey,
20Anjel-Fahim, and Dr. Kamal; and his brother-in-law, Dr. Nagi
21Ghali; and

1    WHEREAS, Joseph Girgis is survived by his wife of 62 years,
2Grace; his children, Dr. Samuel (Rita), John (Rhonda), and Dr.
3Phillip (Maggie); his siblings, Dr. Tawfik (Dorothy), Dr.
4Farouk (Marge), Dr. Lily Ghali, Dr. Aida (Dr. Phillip), Dr.
5Mary (Fadel) Hanna, and Suad (Dr. Emil) Anton; his 11
6grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Dr. Mervet; and his many
7nephews, nieces, and cousins; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
10his family and friends, the passing of Joseph F. Girgis; and be
11it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Joseph Girgis as an expression of
14our sympathy.
