| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois State Senate are | 3 | | saddened to learn of the death of James Stanford; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, James Stanford was born on October 13, 1925 in | 5 | | Shaw, Mississippi; he received his education from Shaw Public | 6 | | Schools in Mississippi; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, James Stanford accepted Jesus Christ as his | 8 | | personal Lord and Savior in 1957; he later became a member of | 9 | | Ambassadors For Christ Church under the leadership of his son, | 10 | | Apostle Joseph L. Stanford; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, James Stanford was a decorated soldier in the | 12 | | United States Armed Forces and served during World War II; he | 13 | | received 6 military honors and bars for his meritorious | 14 | | service; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, James Stanford was committed to serving humanity, | 16 | | sacrificing his time and finances to help the downtrodden and | 17 | | those in need; he was affiliated with several community | 18 | | organizations, including Target Area Development, Family Cares | 19 | | Mission, and Safe Cities in Chicago and Cape Town, South | 20 | | Africa; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, James Stanford was preceded in death by his | 2 | | parents, James and Guffie Stanford; his wife, Luversa Young; | 3 | | his sons, Douglas Carter, James Stanford, Jr., and Jimmy | 4 | | Stanford; his daughter, Charlie Mae Hunt; and his sisters, | 5 | | Maggie Hooker, Martha Bryant, and Arlena Van Buren; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, James Stanford is survived by his sons, Ozzie | 7 | | Stanford, Joseph (Debra) Stanford, Larry Stanford, and James | 8 | | Stanford; his daughters, Martha Coakley, Theresa Mitchell, and | 9 | | Sarah Persely; his sisters, Rosie Lee Mungon, Ozzie Holt, and | 10 | | Elvie Holt; his 32 grandchildren; his 73 great-grandchildren; | 11 | | his 24 great-great-grandchildren; and his many other relatives | 12 | | and friends; therefore, be it
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | 15 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of James Stanford; and be | 16 | | it further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to the family of James Stanford as an expression of | 19 | | our sympathy.
