1    AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Metro-East Sanitary District Act of 1974 is
5amended by changing Section 3-4 as follows:
 
6    (70 ILCS 2905/3-4)  (from Ch. 42, par. 503-4)
7    Sec. 3-4. (a) Commissioners shall be paid the same
8salaries as the county board members from either St. Clair or
9Madison County whichever is lower.
10    (b) The board of commissioners may, by ordinance, arrange
11to provide employees and commissioners of the sanitary
12district group, life, health, accident, hospital, and medical
13insurance, or any one or any combination of such types of
14insurance. The insurance may include provision for employees
15and commissioners who rely on treatment by prayer or spiritual
16means alone for healing in accordance with the tenets and
17practice of a well-recognized religious denomination. The
18board of commissioners may provide for payment by the sanitary
19district of the premium or charge for the insurance.
20    If the sanitary district does not pay for the premium or
21charge for group life, health, accident, hospital, or medical
22insurance, the board of commissioners may allow withholding
23and deducting from the compensation of the employees and

1commissioners of the premium or charge for the group life,
2health, accident, hospital, or medical insurance.
3    Insurance obtained under this subsection must be obtained
4from an insurance company authorized to do business in the
5State of Illinois or any other organization or service
6offering similar coverage authorized to do business in the
7State of Illinois.
