HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Charlotte Frances Martin, who passed away on May 22, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Martin was born to Kenneth V. Martin and Anna M. (Coleman) Martin in Chicago on September 7, 1964; she attended St. Felicitas Catholic School and graduated from Hyde Park Career Academy in 1983; she attended Olive Harvey Community College and Lewis University before later transferring to Malcolm X Community College, where she decided to pursue the hospitality industry; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Martin worked as a hotel clerk for The Red Roof Inn; she also worked as a clerk for the University of Illinois; she switched professions to work in fashion for 10 years; she then decided to further help the community by assisting State Representative Marcus Evans; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Martin loved singing and dancing; she deeply loved listening to house music and loved watching the live streams of DJ Cleve, a house music DJ, on Facebook; she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her mother; she also loved creating memories with her grandchildren; she was a true foodie whose favorite foods were tacos and barbecued chicken; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Martin was affectionately known as "Cha Cha"; she was outgoing, loyal, smart, and respectful; she will be remembered as someone who loved having fun and was always laughing, smiling, and cracking jokes; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Martin was preceded in death by her grandmother, Annie B. Dailey; her father; her brother, Keith Martin; and her nephew, Vernon "Little Vernon" Almond; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte is survived by her mother; her sisters, Cheryl (Ronald) and Tonya (Kenneth); her brother, Vernon; her children, Devon and Khadia (Josh); her grandchildren, Zamir and Ashton; her nieces, Joy Ann and Sonsara (Markus); her nephews, Khari (Nese), Derrick (Shatia), and Dorian; and a host of family and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Charlotte Frances Martin and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Charlotte Martin as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
