HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Mt. Zion High School
4boys basketball team, the Braves, on their historic 2023-2024
5season; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Braves went to the state tournament for the
7first time in 20 years, making history every step of the way
8and setting a school record for wins with 35 against only 3
9losses; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Braves had only one regular season loss,
11which was in January to the defending Class 3A state champs;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, The Braves had a tournament win of 47 to 46 over
14Centralia in the Class 3A Super-Sectional in Springfield,
15which was the closest margin of victory all season; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The Braves won 33 of their 38 games this season by
17double digits; and
 
18    WHEREAS, The Braves defeated their opponents by an average
19margin of 22.6 points with a rotation of primarily
20non-seniors; and

1    WHEREAS, Junior Lyncoln Koester and sophomore JC Anderson
2led the team in scoring with 15.9 points per game and 14.7
3points per game, respectively; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The Braves next two top scorers, Sam Driscoll and
5Brayden Trimble, both juniors, helped the team tremendously;
6the other players on the team contributing to the remarkable
7season include Tucker Burrus, Makobi Adams, Chase Fink, Grant
8McAtee, Landon Weigler, Jacob Harvey, Connor Fox, Gage Owens,
9Will Grohne, Logan Auvil, and Ed Neighbors; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Braves are led by Head Coach Dale Schuring
11and Assistant Coaches Jay Driscoll and Mike Greer; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The Braves never quit and showed determination,
13grit, and toughness every time it was needed; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
15HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16we congratulate the Mt. Zion High School boys basketball team,
17the Braves, on their historic season, and we wish them many
18more successful seasons to come; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the Braves as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
