1     AN ACT concerning local government.

2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:

4     Section 5. The Fire Protection District Act is amended by
5 changing Section 16.08b as follows:

6     (70 ILCS 705/16.08b)
7     Sec. 16.08b. Emergency medical technician licensure;
8 training.
9     (a) The board of trustees of a fire protection district
10 may require that all firefighters hired on or after January 1,
11 2005 (the effective date of Public Act 93-952) by any fire
12 department within the district to ~~must~~ be licensed as an EMT,
13 EMT-I, A-EMT, or paramedic under the Emergency Medical
14 Services (EMS) Systems Act.
15     (b) The board of trustees of a fire protection district
16 must, subject to appropriation by the General Assembly,
17 reimburse the mandatory training expenses of an EMT, EMT-I,
18 A-EMT, or paramedic employed by or under contract with the
19 fire protection district, including the training expenses of a
20 firefighter required to be licensed as an EMT, EMT-I, A-EMT,
21 or paramedic under subsection (a).

1     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January
2 1, 2024.
