| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Laton Ernest "Ernie" Mahan of Dunlap, | 4 | | who passed away on September 25, 2023; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Ernie Mahan was born to Sylvester and June (Ford) | 6 | | Mahan in Peoria on January 25, 1947; he served in the U.S. | 7 | | Marine Corps during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968; he | 8 | | married Mary Ellen Kerker in Peoria on February 15, 1969; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, Ernie Mahan worked at Caterpillar, Inc. for over | 10 | | 30 years, retiring as a line foreman in 2002; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, Ernie Mahan's passion for helping others led him | 12 | | to serve in a number of positions revolving around human | 13 | | services, including as an EMT, a volunteer firefighter for the | 14 | | Northern Tazewell Fire Department, and a court-appointed | 15 | | children's advocate through Court Appointed Special Advocates | 16 | | (CASA); he also volunteered at different organizations, | 17 | | including the Friendship House, Meals on Wheels, and the | 18 | | Special Education Association of Peoria County (SEAPCO); and | 19 | | WHEREAS, Ernie Mahan was preceded in death by his parents; | 20 | | and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Ernie Mahan is survived by his wife; his sons, | 2 | | Dennis (Gretchen) Mahan and Chris Mahan; his daughter, Jill | 3 | | (Chuck) Mathes; his grandchildren, Gabriel, Helena, Haydn, | 4 | | Faith, and Brody; his brother, Ken Mahan; his sisters, Sue | 5 | | (Scott) Bitcon and Carol Young; and several nieces and | 6 | | nephews; therefore, be it | 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 9 | | Laton Ernest "Ernie" Mahan and extend our sincere condolences | 10 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | 11 | | it further | 12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 13 | | presented to the family of Ernie Mahan as an expression of our | 14 | | deepest sympathy. |
