SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Edgar George "Bud" Hoener of Sutter, who passed away on February 19, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Bud Hoener was born to George and Freda M. (Hufendick) Hoener on the family farm in Hancock County on August 21, 1934; he graduated as valedictorian of his 8th grade class and attended high school through Christmas vacation of his sophomore year; he served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959, where he was a guard at Spandau Prison; he married Carolyn "Sue" Smyser at the Emerson Baptist Church in Emerson, Missouri on October 20, 1963; and

WHEREAS, Bud Hoener was a farmer for his entire life; and

WHEREAS, Bud Hoener was a member of Bethany United Christian Church in Tioga; in his younger years, he enjoyed going to the Crystal Ball Skating Rink in Carthage and participated in skate shows; he was an excellent woodworker, could play the piano by ear, and was a prolific traveler, visiting all 48 continental states; and

WHEREAS, Bud Hoener valued family as his top priority, and he attended all of his children and grandchildren's sports, orchestra, band, and school activities; and

WHEREAS, Bud Hoener was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Marie (Pete) Frey, Naomi (Little) Griffin, and Pauline Hoener; and his daughter-in-law, Gloria Hoener; and

WHEREAS, Bud Hoener is survived by his wife, Carolyn "Sue" Hoener; his sons, Douglas Hoener and Gregory (Kathy) Hoener Sr.; his daughter, Tammy Hoener; his grandchildren, Bryce (Olivia) Hoener, Allyson (Joshua) Hetzler, Kayla (fiancé, Owen Shelton) Hoener, Michael (Richlyn) Hoener, Gregory (Megan) Hoener Jr., Thomas (Lexis) Hoener, and Amber Hoener; his great-grandchildren, Callum, Liam, Ricky, Bennett, and Ember; and his numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Edgar George "Bud" Hoener and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bud Hoener as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
