SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Stanley E. "Stan" Gregory of Alexis, who passed away on April 13, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Stan Gregory was born in Rock Island to Floyd L. and Jean E. (Dahl) Gregory on November 21, 1945; he was raised and educated in Alexis and graduated from Alexis High School in 1963; he attended Western Illinois University; he served with the U.S. Army Reserve; he married Brenda Arp at the Zion Lutheran Church in North Henderson on June 18, 1966; and

WHEREAS, Stan Gregory farmed his entire life on the family farm west of Alexis; he also owned and operated Gregory Real Estate and Auction in Alexis for over 40 years; and

WHEREAS, Stan Gregory was a lifelong member of the Norwood Presbyterian Church, where he served as both elder and trustee; he served on the Norwood Cemetery Board and was a member of the Mercer County Fair Board; he was a founding member of the Alexis Men's Club, which sponsored the Steve McBride Scholarship for Alexis High School graduates; he loved his community and was instrumental in several of the Alexis centennial events and Alexis progress shows as a member of the Alexis Jaycees; and

WHEREAS, Stan Gregory raised Duroc hogs for many years, but his Angus cattle were his pride and joy; in his youth, he loved showing his 4-H calves at the local and state fairs as well as the International Livestock Show in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Stan Gregory loved being a farmer, but most of all, he loved his family and spending time with them, especially attending his grandchildren's numerous events; he was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals; he loved playing football, baseball, and later softball and enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends; and

WHEREAS, Stan Gregory was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Stan Gregory is survived by his wife, Brenda; his children, Kristina (Grant) Eaton, Steve (Dana) Gregory, and Jeff (Heather) Gregory; his grandchildren, Jared (Natalie) Eaton, Claire Gregory, Anne Gregory, Vada Gregory, Max Gregory, and Jack Gregory; his sister, Terry Anderson; and numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Stanley E. "Stan" Gregory and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Stan Gregory as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
