SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Michael John Gerace, formerly of Downers Grove, who passed away on April 25, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Michael Gerace was born on September 17, 1955, and he was the son of John and Annette (Lupo) Gerace; and

WHEREAS, Michael Gerace served as a firefighter in the Westchester Fire Department for 30 years; he also worked as a painter for Craftsman Painting and Decorating, and he operated his own carpet cleaning business for many years; after his retirement from the Westchester Fire Department, he worked part-time at Kodiak Controls until he moved to Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS, Michael Gerace was diligent about his daily workouts and enjoyed reading, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Michael Gerace was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Michael Gerace is survived by his wife and best friend, Joan (McCabe) Gerace; his children, Michael John-Charles Gerace and Mallorie Lynn (David) Mertz; his grandchildren, Samuel, Josie, and Scarlett Mertz; his siblings, Robert (Pat), Catherine (John) Moore, James (Laura), and Jack (Theresa); his sisters-in-law, Linda (Gerry) Blight and Karen (Chuck) Jorgensen; his nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren; and his many friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Michael John Gerace and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Michael Gerace as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
