SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dale E. Rhodes of Colona, who passed away on April 28, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Dale Rhodes was born to Clarence and Pearl (Thomas) Rhodes in Lafayette, Indiana on October 19, 1938; he graduated from Fowler, Indiana High School in 1956, and he participated in basketball and track, setting the school record for the 100-yard dash in 1956; he served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1956 to 1958, during which he played basketball for the Army; and

WHEREAS, After returning from military service, Dale Rhodes started working as a safety director for Ringle Express, Inc. in Fowler, Indiana; he married Marilyn Freeland at Sacred Heart Church in Fowler, Indiana on June 13, 1959; after Ringle Express opened a second location in the Quad Cities in 1960, he transferred to that location in Illinois; and

WHEREAS, After retiring from the trucking industry, Dale and Marilyn Rhodes owned and operated Countryside Tearoom in their home while traveling across the Midwest to partake in craft shows; and

WHEREAS, Dale Rhodes loved sports and coached little league basketball and baseball in Geneseo; his biggest joy came from watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play sports and participate in extracurricular activities; and

WHEREAS, Dale Rhodes was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Bernard and Catherine Freeland; his son-in-law, Richard Gilman; his brothers-in-law, James Freeland and George Grieves; his sisters-in-law, Joyce, Phyllis, Jan, and Mary Freeland; his niece, Mary Miller; and his nephew, Mark Grieves; and

WHEREAS, Dale Rhodes is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his sister, Doris Bird; his children, Cathy Gilman, Chris (Jim) Nordstrom, and Richard (Sofia) Rhodes; his grandchildren, Shane, Jenica (Blake) Scheib, Brenden (Erica) Nordstrom, Jamisen (Meghan) Nordstrom, Chance (Lexy) Nordstrom, Jarron Nordstrom, Elizabeth Rhodes, Olivia Rhodes, and Jennifer Rhodes; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, brothers, sisters-in-law, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dale E. Rhodes and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dale Rhodes as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
