SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Eldon R. "Bob" Abbott of rural Smithfield, who passed away on January 26, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Bob Abbott was born to Arthur and Nina (Baughman) Abbott in Fulton County on November 28, 1927; he served in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II and the Korean War; he married Mary Louise Negley in Smithfield on May 31, 1952; and

WHEREAS, Bob Abbott was a lifelong farmer, and he sold Pioneer seeds for 23 years; and

WHEREAS, Bob Abbott was a member of the Brock United Methodist Church in Smithfield; he was also a member of the Fulton County Farm Bureau, Cuba Lodge AF&AM No. 534, the Odd Fellows Lodge in Fiatt, the Macomb Prairieland Barbershop Chorus, and the Shaw Creek Golf Course in Bushnell; and

WHEREAS, Bob Abbott was preceded in death by his parents and one sister; and

WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Bob Abbott was survived by his wife; his sons, Marty (Marilyn) Abbott, Bruce (Candie) Abbott, David (Carol) Abbott, and Charles (Cindi) Abbott; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Eldon R. "Bob" Abbott and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bob Abbott as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
