SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of R. Garey Hodge of Springfield, who passed away on May 29, 2023; and

WHEREAS, R. Garey Hodge was born to Chester B. and Jean Stine Hodge in Moweaqua on July 27, 1937; he received his Bachelor of Science in Art Education and Masters of Arts in Painting and Art History from Eastern Illinois University; and

WHEREAS, R. Garey Hodge taught art in Springfield Public Schools District 186 from 1962 until he retired from Springfield High School in 1994; and

WHEREAS, R. Garey Hodge was a partner and served on the board of directors of the C.R. Davis Company in Springfield; he was a member of St. Paul's Lodge No. 500 A.F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite Consistory, the Springfield York Rite, the Knights Templar, Ansar Shrine, the Ansar Mounted Cowboys Unit, and the Royal Order of Jesters; he was a Kentucky Colonel; he was also a past president of the Springfield chapter of the National Society of Sons of the American Revolution; and

WHEREAS, R. Garey Hodge was known for his sports-themed drawings and acrylic paintings, which he exhibited in numerous states; and

WHEREAS, R. Garey Hodge was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Robert S. Hodge and Chester B. Hodge Jr.; and his sister, Audrey C. Carnegie; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of R. Garey Hodge and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of R. Garey Hodge as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
