SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Merriam "Lee" Gustafson of Moline, who passed away on August 22, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Lee Gustafson was born to Clarence Bernhard and Mabel Ann (Hanson) Gustafson in Minneapolis, Minnesota on January 16, 1927; he graduated from Dawson High School and the University of Minnesota, receiving a degree in agricultural engineering; he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1945 to 1946; he married Inez Kathleen Reiff in Minneapolis on December 1, 1951; and

WHEREAS, Lee Gustafson worked as an engineer at John Deere; and

WHEREAS, Lee Gustafson was involved in Christian education, and he was an avid participant in the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship and a member of Toastmasters and the Christian Service Brigade; he enjoyed photography as a hobby, and he loved traveling and researching his Swedish genealogy; and

WHEREAS, Lee Gustafson was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Sandra Ellen Gustafson; his brother, David; and his sister-in-law, Harriett; and

WHEREAS, Lee Gustafson is survived by his wife of 71 years, Inez; his children, Sheryl (Dorman) Martin Brampton, Steven (Marites) Gustafson, Alan (Jana) Gustafson, Kathleen Gauwitz, and Gregory (Sheila) Gustafson; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his brother, Roger (Bonnie) Gustafson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Merriam "Lee" Gustafson and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lee Gustafson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
