SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Leland "Lee" William Fuchs of
4Springfield, who passed away on December 2, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lee Fuchs was born to Martin and Mary (Smith)
6Fuchs in Harvel on October 28, 1926; he was a Navy veteran who
7served in the South Pacific in World War Two aboard the U.S.S.
8Walker DD 517; he attended the University of Illinois in
9Urbana-Champaign and received a degree in Marketing and
10Management in 1950; he married the love of his life Lucille
11Mueller in Mount Olive on October 10, 1953; in 1973, he earned
12a master's degree at Sangamon State University, now called the
13University of Illinois Springfield; and
 
14    WHEREAS, AT Sangamon State, Lee Fuchs was appointed an
15Adjunct Assistant Professor and taught the course Management
16Information Systems in the Graduate School of Public
17Administration for 15 years; he started his career at the
18State of Illinois in April of 1953 with the Illinois Secretary
19of State office; he helped install the state's first computer
20system at the Secretary of State Driver's License division in
211955; additionally, he was part of the group that developed
22the computer generated "Soundex" Driver's License number,
23which is still in use today; he then worked with the Department

1of Public Aid as a Data Processing Manager; he worked with the
2Management Information Division, now Central Management
3Systems, organizing the Centralized Computer Facility; in
41970, he transferred to the Illinois Department of
5Transportation and implemented the Remote Job Entry computer
6network in the district offices; he was Bureau Chief of
7Information Processing and Special Assistant to the Director
8of Finance and Administration, retiring in December of 1991;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Lee Fuchs served as President, Membership
11Chairman, and was a board member of the Retired State
12Employees Association; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Lee Fuchs loved his family, golf, travel, and his
14beloved Illini; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Lee Fuchs was preceded in death by his parents;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, Lee Fuchs is survived by his wife; his sons,
18Bruce Fuchs, Randal Fuchs, and Robin Fuchs; his daughter, Lori
19(Shell) Haffner; his five grandchildren, Tyler (Jocelyn),
20Taryn, Elisabeth (Riley), Michael, and Rebecca; and his two
21great-grandchildren, Happy and Lucas; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3Leland "Lee" William Fuchs and extend our sincere condolences
4to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
5it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Lee Fuchs as an expression of our
8deepest sympathy.
