 1        AN ACT concerning telecommunications carriers.

 2        Be it enacted by the People of  the  State  of  Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section 5.  The Public Utilities Act is amended by adding
 5    Section 13-519 as follows:

 6        (220 ILCS 5/13-519 new)
 7        (Section scheduled to be repealed on July 1, 2005)
 8        Sec.  13-519.  Fire  alarm;  discontinuance  of  service.
 9    When  a telecommunications carrier initiates a discontinuance
10    of service on a known emergency system or fire  alarm  system
11    that  is  required  by  the local authority to be a dedicated
12    phone line circuit  to  the  central  dispatch  of  the  fire
13    department or fire protection district or, if applicable, the
14    police  department, the telecommunications carrier shall also
15    transmit a copy of the written notice  of  discontinuance  to
16    that local authority.
