 1        AN ACT concerning schools.

 2        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section 5.  The School Code is amended by adding Sections
 5    10-22.24e and 34-18.26 as follows:

 6        (105 ILCS 5/10-22.24e new)
 7        Sec. 10-22.24e.  Receptionists.  The school  board  shall
 8    employ  receptionists who are on duty at all times during the
 9    regular school  day  to  answer  telephones  that  serve  the
10    district's administrative offices and attendance centers.  No
11    school  board shall permit answering machines, voice mail, or
12    equivalent telecommunication recording devices to be used  to
13    answer,  receive,  or otherwise respond to incoming telephone
14    calls at an administrative office or attendance center of the
15    district at any time during the regular school day.

17        Sec. 34-18.26.  Receptionists.  The  board  of  education
18    shall  employ  receptionists  who  are  on  duty at all times
19    during the regular school day to answer telephones that serve
20    the district's administrative offices and attendance centers.
21    The board of education shall not permit  answering  machines,
22    voice mail, or equivalent telecommunication recording devices
23    to  be  used  to  answer,  receive,  or  otherwise respond to
24    incoming telephone  calls  at  an  administrative  office  or
25    attendance  center  of  the  district  at any time during the
26    regular school day.

27        Section 90.  The State Mandates Act is amended by  adding
28    Section 8.27 as follows:

 1        (30 ILCS 805/8.27 new)
 2        Sec.  8.27.  Exempt  mandate.  Notwithstanding Sections 6
 3    and 8 of this Act, no reimbursement by the State is  required
 4    for  the  implementation  of  any  mandate  created  by  this
 5    amendatory Act of the 93rd General Assembly.

 6        Section  99.  Effective date.  This Act takes effect upon
 7    becoming law.
