SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
New Act

    Creates the Firewall Protection Act. Provides that all multi-family structures containing 3 or more living units or any living units in a structure containing any type of commercial activity shall be constructed with separation walls, floors, and roofs with a minimum 2-hour fire rating. Denies home rule powers.

1     AN ACT concerning fire safety.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5 Firewall Protection Act.
 
6     Section 5. Firewalls. All multi-family structures
7 containing 3 or more living units or any living unit in a
8 structure containing any type of commercial activity shall be
9 constructed with separation walls, floors, and roofs with a
10 minimum 2-hour fire rating.
 
11     Section 10. Home rule. The regulation of firewalls is an
12 exclusive power and function of the State. A home rule unit may
13 not regulate firewalls. This Section is a denial and limitation
14 of home rule powers and functions under subsection (h) of
15 Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution.
