20 ILCS 2805/2.01   from Ch. 126 1/2, par. 67.01

    Amends the Department of Veterans Affairs Act. Makes technical changes in a Section concerning Illinois Veterans Homes.

A BILL FOR

1     AN ACT in relation to veterans homes.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Department of Veterans Affairs Act is
5 amended by changing Section 2.01 as follows:
 
6     (20 ILCS 2805/2.01)  (from Ch. 126 1/2, par. 67.01)
7     Sec. 2.01. Veterans Homes. Any honorably discharged
8 veteran is entitled to admission to an Illinois Veterans Home,
9 if the applicant:
10     (a) (1) Has served in the armed forces of the United States
11 at least one 1 day in the Spanish American War, World War I,
12 World War II, the Korean Conflict, the Viet Nam Campaign, or
13 the Persian Gulf Conflict between the dates recognized by the
14 U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or between any other
15 present or future dates recognized by the U.S. Department of
16 Veterans Affairs as a war period, or has served in a hostile
17 fire environment and has been awarded a campaign or
18 expeditionary medal signifying his or her service, for purposes
19 of eligibility for domiciliary or nursing home care; or
20     (2) Has (i) served on active duty in the armed forces for
21 one year for purposes of eligibility for domiciliary care only
22 or (ii) served in the National Guard or Reserve Forces of the
23 United States and completed 20 years of satisfactory service,
24 is otherwise eligible to receive reserve or active duty
25 retirement benefits, and has been an Illinois resident for at
26 least one year before applying for admission for purposes of
27 eligibility for domiciliary care only; and
28     (b) Has service accredited to the State of Illinois or has
29 been a resident of this State for one year immediately
30 preceding the date of application; and
31     (c) For admission to the Illinois Veterans Homes at Anna
32 and Quincy, is disabled by disease, wounds, or otherwise and

1 because of the disability is incapable of earning a living; or
2     (d) For admission to the Illinois Veterans Homes at LaSalle
3 and Manteno and for admission to the John Joseph Kelly
4 Veteran's Home, is disabled by disease, wounds, or otherwise
5 and, for purposes of eligibility for nursing home care,
6 requires nursing care because of the disability.
