    Amends the Counties Code. Eliminates an annual stipend paid by the State for the sheriff of Cook County. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning counties.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by changing Section
5 4-8002 as follows:
 
6     (55 ILCS 5/4-8002)  (from Ch. 34, par. 4-8002)
7     Sec. 4-8002. Additional compensation of sheriff and
8 recorder.
9     (a) In addition to any salary otherwise provided by law,
10 beginning December 1, 1998, the sheriff of Cook County for his
11 or her additional duties imposed by other statutes or laws
12 shall receive an annual stipend to be paid by the State in the
13 amount of $6,500. The county board shall not reduce or
14 otherwise impair the compensation payable from county funds to
15 the sheriff if the reduction or impairment is the result of the
16 sheriff receiving a stipend payable from State funds.
17 (b) In addition to any salary otherwise provided by law,
18 beginning December 1, 2000, the recorder of deeds of Cook
19 County for his or her additional duties imposed by law shall
20 receive an annual stipend to be paid by the State in an amount
21 equal to the stipend paid to each recorder in other counties
22 under subsection (d) of Section 4-6001 of this Code. The county
23 board may not reduce or otherwise impair the compensation
24 payable from county funds to the recorder of deeds if the
25 reduction or impairment is the result of the recorder of deeds
26 receiving a stipend payable from State funds.

28     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
29 becoming law.
