HOUSE RESOLUTION

2     WHEREAS, It has been recently learned that members of the
3 United States military who were over the age of 21 were told by
4 vendors at recent Illinois State Fairs that their military ID,
5 which proves the age of the bearer, was not sufficient to
6 obtain alcoholic beverages; and

7     WHEREAS, A military ID is recognized by the State in the
8 Liquor Control Act of 1934 as a valid proof of age for the
9 purchase and possession of alcoholic beverages; and

10     WHEREAS, Soldiers in the United States military are often
11 accustomed to only carrying their military ID if not driving,
12 with the knowledge that it is an accepted form of
13 identification; and

14     WHEREAS, Many soldiers who have just returned from active
15 duty defending their country have left their driver's licenses
16 with their families, and may wish to attend events such as the
17 Illinois State Fair before returning home to retrieve their
18 driver's license; and

19     WHEREAS, The Illinois State Fair represents the best of
20 what Illinois has to offer, and we in the House of
21 Representatives believe that members of the Armed Forces
22 represent the best of Illinois; and

23     WHEREAS, We in the House of Representatives hold the
24 Illinois State Fair in the highest regard and wish it to be an
25 event friendly to our military and accommodating to the special
26 circumstances that find our soldiers without their driver's
27 licenses; therefore, be it

28     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
29 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we

HR1015 - 2 - LRB093 22385 RXD 51650 r

1 respectfully urge the management of the Illinois State Fair to
2 adopt a policy that affirms the legality and acceptability of
3 military IDs, not only as legal proof of age to purchase
4 alcoholic beverages, but also proof of a commitment to
5 defending the liberties we cherish in this State, and urge that
6 anyone subcontracted to serve alcohol at the Illinois State
7 Fair be encouraged to abide by the policy.
