| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives are |
| 3 |
| pleased to recognize milestone events that occur in the State |
| 4 |
| of Illinois; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that the Coles County |
| 6 |
| Fair is celebrating its sesquicentennial during the summer of |
| 7 |
| 2004; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, In 1854, the Coles County Fair began a continuous |
| 9 |
| annual run of agriculture-related activities that continues to |
| 10 |
| this day; the fair, started in the 19th Century, grew |
| 11 |
| throughout the entire 20th Century, and is now in its fourth |
| 12 |
| year in the 21st Century; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, While the fair has changed through the years, it |
| 14 |
| remains what it has always been, a celebration of rural |
| 15 |
| America; it is also a celebration of achievement; young people |
| 16 |
| from all over Coles County have been working on projects to |
| 17 |
| present at the fair; many will advance to the State Fair in |
| 18 |
| Springfield; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, The fair also features a 4-H livestock auction, |
| 20 |
| the Miss Coles County Fair pageant, a gospel music festival, |
| 21 |
| tractor pulls, an auto thrill show, and a demolition derby; and
|
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, The Coles County Fair has a link to the famous |
| 23 |
| Lincoln-Douglas Debate of 1858, which was held at the |
| 24 |
| fairgrounds; therefore, be it
|
| 25 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 26 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 27 |
| congratulate the Coles County Fair on the distinguished |
| 28 |
| anniversary of this year's event, the notable age of 150 years; |
| 29 |
