| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, Lawrence Riddle American Legion Post #88 has |
| 3 |
| constructed its new building at 1903 Maple Avenue in Mattoon; |
| 4 |
| and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Lawrence Riddle American Legion Post #88 was |
| 6 |
| established in 1919; the name Lawrence Riddle was adopted |
| 7 |
| because First Sgt. Lawrence Riddle was the first veteran from |
| 8 |
| Mattoon to give his life in the service of his country in World |
| 9 |
| War I; he received the Distinguished Service Cross; memorabilia |
| 10 |
| of First Sgt. Riddle and other area veterans is displayed near |
| 11 |
| the entrance of the new building; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Post #88 has approximately 1,800 members |
| 13 |
| including its legionnaires, auxiliary, Sons of the American |
| 14 |
| Legion and 40/8 members; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Construction of the nearly 11,000 square foot |
| 16 |
| steel and brick building began in December of 2003; Post #88 |
| 17 |
| moved into the building in June of 2004; it features a large |
| 18 |
| social area, a kitchen with all new appliances, a private party |
| 19 |
| room, offices and storage areas, an arms room and a conference |
| 20 |
| room; the meeting hall can hold about 280 people and an |
| 21 |
| overflow area can hold about 50 more people; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 23 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 24 |
| congratulate Commander Lee Oakley and the other members of |
| 25 |
| Lawrence Riddle American Legion Post #88 of Mattoon on the |
| 26 |
| completion of their new building and we extend our best wishes |
| 27 |
| to them as they continue to represent the interests and |
| 28 |
| concerns of area veterans who fought for our nation; and be it |
| 29 |
| further
