 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives wish
 3    to congratulate Thomas O. Myers Jr. of Elmhurst on being  the
 4    recipient of the Elmhurst Jaycees' 2003 Distinguished Service
 5    Award; and

 6        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Myers is the owner and president of Thomas
 7    O. Myers Real Estate in Elmhurst; he and his  wife,  Shirley,
 8    are  the  second  generation  of  family leadership in a real
 9    estate business founded in  1920  by  his  father;  he  began
10    working with his father following World War II service in the
11    U.S. Navy as an X-ray technician; and

12        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Myers has unselfishly contributed his time
13    and  talents  to  numerous  Elmhurst   local   organizations,
14    agencies,  and  clubs;  since 1961, Mr. Myers has volunteered
15    his time  and  donated  his  money  in  support  of  Elmhurst
16    Memorial  Hospital  and  its Board of Governors, including 30
17    years of service on the  Finance,  Building  &  Grounds,  and
18    Public  Relations Committees; for 23 of the past 25 years, he
19    has chaired or co-chaired the Governors' Fall Benefit Dinner;
20    and

21        WHEREAS, The Myers have endowed a  scholarship  fund  for
22    children of hospital employees who pursue academic studies in
23    a  medical  or health-related field; Mr. Myers was recognized
24    in 1990 with the Governors' Distinguished Service  Award  for
25    his contributions and commitment to the hospital; and

26        WHEREAS,  The  Myers  were  awarded the Founders Medal by
27    Elmhurst  College  in  recognition  of  their  "lifetimes  of
28    building, directing, and accomplishing";  Founders  Medalists
29    have  unique relationships with Elmhurst College in the areas
30    of  personal  commitment,  service   and   involvement,   and
31    philanthropic  assistance;  the Myers recently established an
32    endowed scholarship  fund  at  Elmhurst  College  to  provide

 1    assistance  for  students  who demonstrate financial need and
 2    who serve  as  managers  for  the  Bluejays'  intercollegiate
 3    athletic teams; and

 4        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Myers  has  been  a  member or served in a
 5    leadership capacity in many organizations; he was honored  by
 6    the American Legion as Citizen of the Year in 1983; therfore,
 7    be it

 8        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
 9    NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
10    we congratulate Thomas O. Myers Jr. on receiving the Elmhurst
11    Jaycees' 2003 Distinguished Service Award; and

12        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
13    presented to Thomas O. Myers Jr. as a token  of  our  respect
14    and esteem.
