 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, Rich in history and soundly connected to Hoffman
 3    Estates, Lakewood Homes will be celebrating  the  opening  of
 4    their  new  corporate  offices  at 2700 W. Higgins in Hoffman
 5    Estates on Friday, May 9, 2003; and

 6        WHEREAS, In 1922, Sam Hoffman, immigrated to  the  United
 7    States from Russia, and in 1947, he and his son, Jack, formed
 8    F&S (Father & Son) Construction in Phoenix; and

 9        WHEREAS, In 1954, a local farmer in Cook County, Illinois
10    sold  his  160-acre farm - now known as Parcel A - to Sam and
11    Jack  Hoffman  for  the  construction  of   Hoffman   Estates
12    Subdivision,  and in 1955, the first homeowners began to move
13    in; and

14        WHEREAS,  On  September  19,  1959,  residents  voted  to
15    incorporate as  the  Village  of  Hoffman  Estates,  and  the
16    charter  was  issued on September 23, 1959, with a population
17    of about 8,000 and an  incorporated  area  just  under  three
18    square miles; and

19        WHEREAS,  Jack Hoffman and his partner, Bob Rosner, moved
20    to the Chicago area in 1957 to form Hoffman-Rosner Homes, and
21    years later Jack's son, Buz, joined the family business; and

22        WHEREAS, Lakewood Homes was established in  1990  by  Buz
23    Hoffman  after  working  16 years in the family business, and
24    was the result of his desire to provide quality homes in good
25    neighborhoods with good schools at affordable prices; and

26        WHEREAS, Lakewood Homes was recipient of the "J.D.  Power
27    and  Associates  Award  for Customer Satisfaction", among all
28    major Chicagoland homebuilders, for two consecutive years and
29    has been named "Builder of the Year"  twice  by  the  Chicago
30    Sun-Times;  in  addition,  Lakewood  Homes  enjoys one of the
31    highest employee retention rates in the industry; and

 1        WHEREAS,  We  recognize  the  outstanding   contributions
 2    Lakewood  Homes  and  the  Hoffman  family  have  made to the
 3    Village of Hoffman Estates, and we congratulate them  on  the
 4    opening of their new corporate offices; therefore, be it

 5        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
 6    NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
 7    we  proclaim  Friday,  May  9,  2003 as Lakewood Homes Day in
 8    honor of Lakewood Homes and the Hoffman  family;  and  be  it
 9    further

10        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
11    presented to Buz Hoffman as an expression of our esteem.
