1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of
3 the State of Illinois were shocked and deeply saddened to
4 learn of the untimely death of Julie R. Grace of Chicago on
5 Tuesday, May 20, 2003; and
6 WHEREAS, Ms. Grace was born in Harvey to Durard and Ruth
7 Grace; she was raised in Taylorville; she graduated from
8 Southern Illinois University with a bachelor's degree in
9 communications; and
10 WHEREAS, Ms. Grace had worked as an intern for U.S.
11 Senator Alan Dixon; she went on to work as a writer and
12 public relations coordinator on political campaigns for
13 Walter Mondale, Senator Dixon, Senator Paul Simon, Cook
14 County Commissioner Ted Lechowicz, and for public relations
15 consultant, Thom Serafin; and
16 WHEREAS, In 1991, Ms. Grace was hired by Time Magazine's
17 Chicago Bureau; she covered some of the most difficult and
18 tragic stories for the Chicago Bureau, including the 1994
19 shocking death of 11-year old Robert "Yummy" Sandifer, the
20 Columbine High School shootings, the Unabomber, the Andrew
21 Cunanan murders, five school shootings nationwide, and the
22 1999 murder verdict in a Michigan courtroom against Dr. Jack
23 Kevorkian; and
24 WHEREAS, In 2001, Ms. Grace became a free-lance writer
25 for various clients; her life exemplified great kindness,
26 empathy, and generosity; and
27 WHEREAS, The passing of Julie R. Grace has been deeply
28 felt by her parents, Durard and Ruth Grace; her brother,
29 Glenn; her nephew; and her beloved street dog, Bronte;
30 therefore, be it
31 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2 we mourn the passing of Julie R. Grace and extend to her
3 friends, family, and all who knew and loved her, our deepest
4 sympathy during their time of bereavement; and be it further
5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to the family of Julie R. Grace as an expression of
7 our sincere condolences and profound sadness at the death of
8 an excellent writer and caring individual.
