 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives wish
 3    to congratulate Avenues to Independence on  the  occasion  of
 4    its 50th anniversary; and

 5        WHEREAS, Avenues to Independence was incorporated in Park
 6    Ridge  on November 19, 1953 as Northwest Suburban Aid for the
 7    Retarded; it is an agency that serves more  than  250  people
 8    with developmental disabilities and their families who reside
 9    in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs; and

10        WHEREAS,  Avenues to Independence is dedicated to putting
11    aside old ideas about what is possible and instead working in
12    partnership with  the  community  to  support  and  encourage
13    people  with  disabilities to lead the lives they choose; the
14    dedicated staff and Board of Directors provide  opportunities
15    for  people  with developmental disabilities to be productive
16    citizens who live, work, volunteer,  and  take  part  in  all
17    aspects of community life; and

18        WHEREAS,  Residents  have  warmly  welcomed the people of
19    Avenues  to  Independence  who  live  in  Avenues'  supported
20    apartment  buildings  and  single  family  homes   in   their
21    communities;  the  agency  has  a  lifelong commitment to the
22    people it serves; therefore, be it

23        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
24    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
25    we congratulate Avenues to Independence on  the  occasion  of
26    its  50th anniversary and we commend the organization for its
27    extensive work with developmentally disabled adults;  and  be
28    it further

29        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
30    presented to Avenues to Independence as an expression of  our
31    respect and esteem.
