 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the House of  Representatives  of
 3    the  State of Illinois wish to congratulate the Mercer County
 4    Agricultural  Society  on   the   occasion   of   its   150th
 5    anniversary; and

 6        WHEREAS,  The  Mercer  County  Agricultural  Society  was
 7    organized  in 1853 and sponsored the first Mercer County Fair
 8    that same year; and

 9        WHEREAS, The Mercer County Fair has fostered agricultural
10    education throughout Western Illinois  through  competitions,
11    displays,  exhibits,  and  educational  programs;  the Mercer
12    County  Fair  has  provided  the   community   with   dances,
13    entertainment, and other social events each summer; and

14        WHEREAS,  The  Mercer  County Fair has aided the youth of
15    the area by hosting the 4H Exhibition Show since 1949; and

16        WHEREAS, The  July  2003  Mercer  County  Fair  has  been
17    designated as the Sesquicentennial Fair in remembrance of 150
18    years  of  successfully  educating and serving the county and
19    Western Illinois; therefore, be it

20        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
21    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
22    we congratulate the Mercer County Agricultural Society on the
23    occasion of its 150th anniversary; and be it further

24        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
25    presented  to  the  Mercer  County Agricultural Society as an
26    expression of our respect and esteem and with best wishes for
27    a successful Sesquicentennial Fair.
