 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives are pleased to congratulate Paul C. Lauterbur
 4    of  Champaign on receiving the 2003 Nobel Prize in Physiology
 5    or Medicine; and

 6        WHEREAS, Mr. Lauterbur is a pioneer in the development of
 7    magnetic resonance  imaging  and  a  faculty  member  at  the
 8    University of Illinois; and

 9        WHEREAS,  Mr. Lauterbur was among the first scientists to
10    use nuclear magnetic resonance in the studies  of  molecules,
11    solutions, and solids; he was the first researcher to produce
12    an  image with NMR and apply the technology to medicine; this
13    led to the development  of  the  magnetic  resonance  imaging
14    scanner,  which has had a revolutionary impact on the medical
15    profession; therefore, be it

16        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
17    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18    we congratulate Paul C. Lauterbur on being awarded  the  2003
19    Nobel  Prize  in  Physiology or Medicine and wish him well in
20    all of his future endeavors; and be it further

21        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
22    presented  to  Paul  C.  Lauterbur  as  an  expression of our
23    respect and esteem.
