| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois wish to congratulate Ms. Norma Schulfer on |
| 4 |
| being awarded the second place 3M Innovative Economic Educator |
| 5 |
| Award; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, The 3M Innovative Economic Educator Award is |
| 7 |
| sponsored by 3M and the Illinois Council on Economic Education |
| 8 |
| (ICEE); the award honors innovative instruction that increases |
| 9 |
| economic understanding; Ms. Schulfer received Second Place in |
| 10 |
| the Secondary Division for a creative unit that dispels the |
| 11 |
| myth that economics is limited to the business section in the |
| 12 |
| newspaper; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Ms. Schulfer's curriculum unit, "Econ, Econ, Read |
| 14 |
| All About It!", involves students exploring daily newspapers |
| 15 |
| through a variety of fun activities; students gain an awareness |
| 16 |
| of choices they make in simply choosing to pick up a newspaper; |
| 17 |
| these choices range from what the youth reads to what he or she |
| 18 |
| purchases; students learn to recognize and analyze incentives |
| 19 |
| and weigh benefits of their choices against the costs; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, The Illinois Council on Economic Education is a |
| 21 |
| unit within the division of NIU Outreach at Northern Illinois |
| 22 |
| University; through eight Centers for Economic Education at |
| 23 |
| universities throughout the State, ICEE provides professional |
| 24 |
| development programs for Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade |
| 25 |
| teachers, curriculum consulting, and student programs to |
| 26 |
| enhance economic understanding; therefore, be it
|
| 27 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 28 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 29 |
| congratulate Norma Schulfer on being named the second place |
| 30 |
| winner of the 3M Economic Educator Award; and be it further
